Hydrogen Factory Västra Götaland – Otterbäcken / Fågelås wind farm

Directly from wind – to Volvo's engines

Full capacity 2028
500 kg H₂/hour
44.8 MW wind power

About the Otterbäcken project

Next to the newly built Fågelås wind farm in Hjo municipality, one of SHG Green Invest's most powerful hydrogen factories is being built. Here wind power is converted directly into green hydrogen – with Volvo's engine factory in Skövde as anchor customer and full capacity planned for 2028.

Fågelås wind farm was commissioned in autumn 2025 and consists of seven wind turbines with a combined capacity of 44.8 MW and an annual production of 168 GWh. The hydrogen factory is built within the park's own electrical grid, providing minimal grid fees and very competitive production costs.

The facility is built on forest land near the park's substation and houses production, storage and loading area for three 40-foot containers. The customer is Volvo's engine factory in Skövde, and additional customers are being identified.

Economics in brief

Investment 561 MSEK
Capacity 12 tons/day
Annual production 3,170 tons H₂/year
Gross revenue 221,8 MSEK/year
Net revenue 136,5 MSEK/year
